So to kick off the series lets talk Decoupage....
So if you follow me on IG you have probably already seen this table (BTW Follow Me on IG @zyizomommy).
So this is a wooden side table i picked up at a local thrift store for $2. I painted the entire table with a Metallic Gold spray paint. I wanted to create something very different but yet unique to display in my bedroom. My inspiration came from several post on pintrest and youtube. But one particular youtube video by Mr. Kate ( << click to watch video) kept replaying in my head. I pondered on many different ways to create this and i must say I am very satisfied with the outcome and can't wait to display it in my new room! :)
What did i use?
~Mod Podge (which can be purchased at Wal-Mart & any craft store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby)
~ Sponge Brush (also can be purchased ^^^^)
~Magazines
~ Scissors
~Plastic cup
~credit card
Step 1:
Take your magazine and clip out whatever appeals to you and your taste and the look that your are trying to achieve when decoupaging whatever surface you plan to transform
Step 2:
Layout your design how you want it to look so you have a visual of the outcome.
Step 3:
Taking my Mod Podge and pouring some into my plastic cup, you want to use a disposable cup because it wont be fun cleaning glue out of a regular non disposable cup.
Step 4:
Take your sponge brush and dip it into your mod podge, then begin to brush your surface to where you will lay your first clipping. Once you lay your clipping on the mod podge take your credit card to smooth it out and make it flat. Then brush the top of your clipping with a thin layer of mod podge and again take your credit card and very gently smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles.
Step 5:
Repeat step 4 until finished
Step 6:
After you've finished to ensure your clippings don't lift or rip you have a few options to seal:
A. Coat your entire project in a couple of layers of mod podge
B. Spray paint your project with a clear sealant
C. Paint a coat of polycrylic over your project
And that's it, its pretty simple and easy it just takes time so to make that time go by faster i always pull up one of my favorite shows on Netflix or Hulu+.
So until next time...
Xoxo
